The Ministry of Education (Minister Choi Kyo-jin) announced that it will hold the 1st Korea-Egypt Joint Committee on Education online on June 24, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education.

The Korea-Egypt Joint Committee on Education is a director-general-level* consultative body established in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on educational cooperation signed during the summit in November 2025. During this first meeting, the two countries will share the status of their respective policies regarding digital education transformation, technical and vocational education, science education, and Korean language education in schools, while discussing concrete avenues for cooperation.

First, the two countries will discuss cooperation strategies for educational innovation and inclusive digital transformation utilizing AI and digital technology. In particular, they will explore collaborative tasks to respond to changing educational environments, such as teacher competency enhancement training for AI and digital education, educational programs for students, and the establishment of digital learning infrastructure.

Cooperation in science education, which serves as the foundation for cultivating future talent in science and technology will also be strengthened. The countries will discuss ways to enhance science education capabilities and expand exchanges, focusing on key areas of mutual interest such as inquiry- and experiment-based science classes and the professional development of science teachers.

In the field of technical and vocational education, Korea will share operational information on its exemplary vocational education models, namely specialized vocational high schools and Meister High Schools. Furthermore, the two sides will discuss plans for the development of vocational high school education, focusing on cooperation with Egypt’s Applied Technology Schools*. Based on this, they plan to promote human exchanges between students and teachers, as well as participation in educational training programs.

*Applied Technology Schools (ATS): A new type of three-year high school program introduced by the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education in the 2018-2019 academic year to innovate vocational and technical education.

Regarding Korean language education, the two countries will review the preparations for establishing Korean language classes within Egypt. Egypt plans to open new Korean language classes at two schools this year (Sherif AI-Sabai Foreign Language School and Al Roya Foreign Language School). Accordingly, the Ministry of Education plans to support the stable expansion of Korean language education in Egypt by providing assistance for the operation of pilot schools and distributing Korean language teaching materials.

Through this joint committee, the Ministry of Education intends to create follow-up achievements in the field of education as agreed upon by the leaders of the two countries, and further solidify bilateral cooperation.
