  • 2010
    • May 14 The Permanent Inspection Division is newly established. The ground is prepared for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to hire 23 public officials in technical post as general public officials.
    • March 1 Chung-ju National University is classified as general university instead of technology university. Administrative office of Kangwon National University Dogye Campus is established.
    • February 26 Inspector-General and Education Policy Enhancement Officer are appointed through open competition while the head of Korean Institute for Special Education and Future-oriented HR Policy Officer are not hired by open competition system. The number of open-competition director posts of national universities is expanded to 3 and the quota of national schools is increased to 365.
  • 2009
    • November 27 Following the revision of Enforcement Decree of the Quota of Public Officials for National Schools, the names of positions of technical-post officials are changed and the quota per each position is adjusted in accordance with the start of the total cost of labor system.
    • October 23 The ground of special recruitment of 193 technical-post officials as general-post officials is prepared. In accordance with the start of the total cost of labor system, the quota per each position is adjusted.
    • September 3 Based on the revision of the National School Decree, Seoul National University Installation Decree, Korea National University of Education Installation Decree, and Korea National Open University Installation Decree, the head of Junior College is renamed President instead of Dean; the recruitment criteria is expanded in hiring the heads of the affiliated facilities; and the ground of expense payment for performing Vice Presidentship is prepared.
    • August 13 Daegu Gyeongbook Institute of Science and Technology is temporarily set up with 13 staffed from the abolished office of Ulsan National University Construction and 3 staffed to respond to the cyber crimes.
    • June 26 National Research Foundation is established through the merge of National Science Foundation, Korea Research Foundation and Korea Foundation for International Cooperation of Science and Technology.
    • May 6 School Autonomy Support Bureau and Daegu/Gwangju National Science Museum Planning Office are established.
    • April 1 The merge of Executive Agency Operation Committee and Central Executive Agency Operation Committee in accordance with the Act on Installation and Operation of Executive Agency.
    • January 1 The Gwacheon National Science Museum is appointed as Executive Agency.

    • December 14 Daegu Gyeongbook Institute of Science and Technology Research is renamed Daegu Gyeongbook Institute of Science and Technology according to the revision of the Act on Daegu Gyeongbook Institute of Science and Technology
    • September 6 The Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity is established through the merge of the Basic Science Research Promotion Council and Korea Science Culture Foundation in accordance with the revision of S&T Basic Act. Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology is reorganized as Presidential Advisory Council on Education, Science and Technology
    • August 7 The policy advisor is recruited on a contract basis. The Northeast Asian History Task Force Team is established to support operation of the Northeast Asian History Foundation (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 6 Bureaus, 5 Officers, 48 Divisions/Teams)
    • July 3 National Institute for International Education Development is renamed National Institute for International Education.
    • March 4 The function of Ministry of Science and Technology (nurturing S&T manpower, basic science policy, nuclear safety and research) and Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (nurturing industry workforce) is integrated into the function of human resources development (1 Minister, 2 Vice ministers, 4 Offices, 5 Bureaus, 15 Officers, 72 Divisions, 10 Teams)
    • February 29 Ministry of Education, Science & Technology (2 vice ministers, 4 offices, 5 bureaus, 13 divisions, 2 task forces, 65 divisions, 776 officials) The Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development and the Ministry of Science & Technology were merged into the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology.

    • July 18 Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development (1 deputy minister, 2 offices, 1 headquarters, 11 bureaus, 38 divisions) The National Human Resources Committee, under the direct control of the president, and the Human Resources Policy Headquarters were organized.

    • August 1 The Ulsan National University construction Office (Planning Team, Facilities Team) is established as a temporary unit to oversee the construction of Ulsan National University.     • March 1 The Digital Local Education Budget & Accounting Reinvention Team is established to set up and operate a digital budget accounting system for local education (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 6 Bureaus, 3 Officers, 1 Office, 36 Divisions, 8 Teams)
    • January 1 The National Institute for International Education Development adopts the lump-sum staff compensation budgeting system.
  • 2005
    • June 8 The Fiscal Planning Officer position is elevated from the Director-level to the Director General-level so as to strengthen the fiscal planning function. (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 4 Bureaus, 5 Officers, 37 Divisions)
    • April 15 The Planning Management Office is reorganized into the Policy Management & Public Relations Office, supported by the Planning & Public Relations Officer. The Policy & Public Relations Officer is established, and the Education Budget Officer is renamed the Fiscal Planning Officer. (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 4 Bureaus, 4 Officers, 38 Divisions)
    • January 27 The Officer Appeals Deliberation Committee for Educational Officers is renamed the Appeal Commission for Teachers, following revision of the Teachers' Status Promotion Act.
    • August 31 University Innovation Office is established to facilitate university restructuring and the names of bureaus are changed to help users better understand its functions (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 6 Bureaus 3 Officers, 37 Divisions, and 6 Teams).
    • February 28 The Overseas Human Resources Policy Division and School Physical Education, Health & School Meals Division are established to support school health & physical education policies and enforce human resources management functions (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 4 Bureaus 4 Officers, 37 Divisions/Officers).
    • January 21 The Public Relations Planning Officer under the Public Information Officer is abolished and the Local Education Innovation Division is established in the School Policy Office to plan and support innovative proposals in local education administrative units.
  • 2004
    • October 21 Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development (1 deputy minister, 2 offices, 4 bureaus, 4 deputy director general, 35 divisions) The Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development assumed responsibility for fundamental science practices, which had fallen within the remit of the Minister of Science & Technology—including a pertinent division and personnel.
    • March 22 The Innovation Division, a supportive unit serving the government"s innovative initiatives, is reorganized to head the Planning & Management Office and to undertake continuous and systematical implementation of pan-governmental innovation (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 4 Bureaus 4 Officers, 34 Divisions/Officers).
    • March 5 Several bureaus are renamed and functionally adjusted in order to ensure efficiency in human resources development and management. Personnel are supplemented to strengthen auditing & inspection functions (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 4 Bureaus 4 Officers, 34 Divisions/Officers).

    • July 25 The Bureau of Education Autonomy Support is abolished. The Office of Education Autonomy is established in the Office of School Policies. Coordination Divisions I and II under the Bureau of Human Resource Policy are abolished. Policy The Coordination Division and Research/University-Industry Collaboration Division are established. Office of International Education and IT Planning is reorganized into the Bureau of International Education and IT. The Science Education Policy Division is established in the Office of School Policy. The Bureau of University Support consisting of the University Administration Support Division, Research Support Division, and University Finance Division is reorganized into the University Policy Division, University Academic Affairs Support Division, and Private Education Policy Division (1 Deputy Minister, 2 Offices, 4 Bureaus 4 Officers, 33 Divisions/Officers).
  • 2001
    • January 29 Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development (1 deputy minister, 2 offices, 4 bureaus, 4 directors, 32 divisions) To comprehensively administer human resources policies, which had been managed by different administrations, the name was changed to the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development; the position of the Assistant Secretary and the Human Resources Policy Bureau were also created.
