MOU signed on Cooperation for Career Education & Vocational Training for Students with Disabilities

□ The Ministry of Education signed an MOU with BGF Retail and GS Retail on December 17 at Korea Institute of Educational Facility Safety to promote career education and vocational training for students with disabilities.

  ㅇ The MOU is intended to strengthen cooperative ties among the companies committed to delivering social value across the region, based on the consensus that the collaborative system is important to create new jobs for disabled people and make changes in awareness and attitude toward hiring the handicapped.

   - The 83 places for field training provided by BGF Retail and GS Retail will be used for the customized job creating project for students with disabilities, as well as for sites where handicapped students can use.

   - With the on-site support, students with disabilities will be provided with training for overall management of convenience stores and supermarkets, including packing of goods and providing customer service.

  ㅇ The MOU is expected to contribute to invigorating the on-site training for students with disabilities that has been shrinking due to COVID-19. It is also expected that providing a high quality training program and field training sites will improve awareness of the public toward hiring the handicapped students, which in turn will expand opportunities for them to enhance the vocational competencies.

□ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hae said, “It is very important that businesses make active effort in order for students with disabilities to successfully enter into society. With that in mind, I hope that there will be more opportunities for them to experience on-site training.”

  ㅇ She further said, “We at the Ministry of Education will continuously make our best effort for handicapped students to integrate into the society without alienating anyone. We are committed to invigorating career education and vocational training for students with disabilities as well as creating jobs for them.”
