DEPUTY PM VISITS SCHOOL IN METROPOLITAN AREA FOR COVID CONTROL MONITORING
□ With the recent surge in student infection, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hae visited the Yonchon Middle School in Seoul on December 3, 2021. ㅇ Upon her visit, she first took a look around the school cafeteria, where students of all grades and classes gather for lunch everyday, and then took stock of the overall COVID-19 control activities in school, and concluded with a meeting attended by school staff, officials of the provincial office, and parents. □ Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has requested all provincial offices of education and schools around the country to double down on strict COVID-19 control measures, considering that students now account for 20% of all infection cases in the country, with their incidence rate exceeding that of adults. ㅇ Moreover, the Ministry of Education will wage four weeks of special COVID-19 control prevention campaign from December 1 to the end of the year, and site inspections will be conducted at over 100 schools, private academies and student facilities outside schools. □ Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Eunhae had a chance to listen to the difficulties that the provincial offices of education and schools experience, and said "The Ministry of Education prioritizes student safety in every decision we make, and the most effective way to protect student health is vaccination. Hence, I'd like to urge your support for extensive student vaccination." ㅇShe added, "By creating a safe school environment, we'll finish the pre-scheduled academic programs by the end of December, and begin to focus on returning to normal in the spring semester in March next year." |
