MEETING HELD TO MONITOR

DISEASE PREVENTION EFFORTS FOR

FULL-SCALE IN-PERSON SCHOOLING

IN SEOUL METROPOLITAN AREA

○ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hae attended a virtual meeting on November 10, 2021, at the Seoul Government Complex to discuss the direction of disease control and prevention efforts in the education sector. The meeting was attended by the education superintendents of the Seoul Metropolitan Area, deputy heads of provincial governments, Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, and Vice Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

○ The meeting aimed to thoroughly monitor how well the CSAT sites are prepared, against the backdrop that 70-80% of the infection is concentrated in the Seoul Metropolitan Area ahead of CSAT, the national college entrance examination, set to be held on November 18. Besides, primary and secondary schools in the Seoul Metropolitan Area are expected to fully allow physical attendance of students right after CSAT, hence more thorough inspections were expected to be conducted to examine both in and outside of schools, and to request close cooperation from relevant organizations and provincial governments.

○ Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, "As the infection rates among teens and school transmissions are on the rise, we should be extra careful in preparing for the nationwide administration of CSAT and full-scale in-person schooling. I urge all relevant education and health authorities at both national and local levels to cooperate closely to ensure that full-scale in-person schooling is implemented successfully in line with the government's plan to carefully return to normal."
