제목 : Visiting Pilot School for Dormitory Environment Inspection
○ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education YOO Eun-hae visited Daejeon Physical Education High School to observe its dormitory environmental specimen testing on Tuesday, March 30.
This visit is to look into disease control situations at relatively vulnerable school elements such as dormitories and athletic clubs. It is also to gather opinions on the site about school disease control and prevention.
Environmental specimen testing for school dormitories is being newly introduced and implemented this year to check if the dormitory environment and facilities are contaminated with COVID-19. Under this pilot project, the Ministry of Education and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency jointly select 97 schools operating dormitories in the country, which are either registered with a significant number of students or densely populated with residents, and subsequently collect samples from high-touch surfaces in the residential quarters.
Deputy PM pointed out that “Physical education schools require more attention compared with regular schools, because wearing facial masks can be limited during physical activities.” She further stated that “Environmental specimen testing of dormitory is a way to find out safety of dormitory environment which is comparatively difficult to ascertain in terms of disease control and prevention. The Ministry of Education and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency will use the results from the pilot project to continue on improving the policy for school dormitory disease control and prevention.” (March 30, 2021.
