On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at the Government Complex Seoul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hae announced the comprehensive implementation plan for Green-Smart School of the Future (hereinafter the Future School).
The Future School is a flagship project of the Korean New Deal and one of the Ministry’s core policy undertakings for the year of 2021. For 2021~2025, this project has earmarked a total budget of 18.5 trillion KRW. Aiming to transition Korea’s education into the future, this project is pushing forward innovations in teaching and learning, including infrastructure upgrades in school buildings older than 40 years?2,835 buildings (approximately 1,400 schools) are to be reconstructed or refurnished (remodeling).
Prior to confirming and announcing this policy scheme, the Ministry took a series of steps to produce detailed contents and implementation procedures, and those steps involved consultations with regional education offices, gathering stakeholder opinions from students, teachers, and parents, and review by the Planning and Advisory Committee.
